Up until their teenage years, because of travelling, Lights (known then as Valerie) and her younger sister were home-schooled by their parents.
After this, she attended Chesley District High School and John Diefenbaker High School before moving to Toronto at the age of 18, during which time she legally changed her name to Lights.
Lights had a comic book version of herself called “Captain Lights” designed by Marvel artist Tomm Coker for a series of webisodes.
The laser gun which she has tattooed on her hip comes from these comics.
“We Were Here” is a foot-stomping explosion of sound from her concept album Skin&Earth—and now it’s got an intense video to match, featuring Lights’ husband Beau Bokan of Blessthefall.
In May 2014, Lights got this tattoo of a retro-style rocketship as a tribute to her daughter Rocket Wild Bokan.
But it looks really cool and gives that jewel a unique look.
So I turn scars into jewels.” Lights has a tattoo across both of her forearms of lyrics translated into German.
According to Lights, “Wonder Woman is kind of my role model.
She’s beautiful and she’s pure, and she fights with immense strength but integrity.
But I specifically placed it so that the jewel would be right over the scar.
